Chronic joint pain can be caused by any number of reasons. Sometimes there is an infection of the body, and it reaches one or more joints and infects that area too. Other times your body may be ill in some way, or the immune system is out of balance or weakened.

Osteoarthritis is caused by age more than anything else, but it’s often caused by injuries to the body that can come from weight lifting or high impact activities and exercise too. These days actually, more cases of Osteoarthritis are actually being caused by obesity, especially in the knees, because the excess weight being carried around puts added stress and strain in the joints of the knees.

Osteoarthritis causes chronic pain because the cartilage tissue which normally protects the bones is thinning out and wearing away. When the joint area has been damaged, this can cause the erosion to happen faster. Poor nutrition will also cause a thinning and loss of cartilage faster, and this cartilage wears down with time and age as well.

Other causes of chronic joint pain can be caused by simple things though. Sitting or standing all day for instance, is a common cause of chronic pain. Wearing high heeled shoes all the time will create joint pain too, as will excessive exercising — particularly exercises which are very strenuous on the joints.
